Who is the Boomer Generation?
Born: 1946-1964
Nicknames: Baby Boomer, Boomers
What Are the Cultural Shapers for Boomers?
Being a Boomer has had its moments of excitement – the emergence of feminism, ‘drugs, sex and rock & roll’ in the 60—70’s, television & TV dinners etc. But there were also global challenges – the end of World War II, the Vietnam War and the Cold War. The economy changed as well – moving to an employers market for labor – great for employers and tough for employees. One of the most important aspects for this generation is that there were twice more people than jobs. So when I explain that key part to Generation X & Y’s – they start to understand. Boomers did not just decide “Hey I think I want to work a 60 hour work week” – a large part of it was survival. Boomers learned that they needed to work extremely hard to get and keep jobs – it was highly competitive!
What is the DNA of Boomers?
Cultural shapers highly impacted the DNA of this generation. They are generally extremely hard working, dedicated and focused on their goals. Many of them work long hours (40-60 hours a week) and tend to be highly skilled at navigating work politics.
