Generation X in the Workplace
One area that X’s struggle with is loyalty. They saw their parents laid off and don’t see it as a big deal to change positions or companies to advance themselves professionally. They may be reluctant to travel or move for work – remember they highly value their quality of life. Put another way, this is a generation that “Works to Live” rather than “Living to Work”. Although everyone is different Gen X’ers tend to really value a job with a strong work / play balance, flexibility, time off and personal perks at the office (i.e. daycare on site, maternity leave top ups, fitness center etc.) more than a salary increase. |
