Nearly 10 years ago Dr. Karyn was asked by many families
to create an event that parents could enjoy with their teens.
To engage pre-teens / teens, she knew that it would have to
wildly creative and fun but also practical - so she created
LIFEBOAT. The response from parents and teens has been overwhelmingly
positive. Every year it sells out and over 90% of parents
rate it as excellent!
LIFEBOAT is a one-of-a-kind experiential parent / youth
event created and facilitated by Dr. Karyn. Throughout the day,
you and your child will master 8 experiential missions geared
to strengthening your relationship! Held at a vintage movie
theatre in Oakville, Ontario - and designed as a real ship -
this event is one you and your child will never forget!
LIFEBOAT is about creating an inspirational
experience between parents and youth, identifying true strengths,
unlocking mysterious obstacles and learning practical communication strategies
to building an outstanding parent / youth relationship!
There are no lectures! Rather,
parents and youth will tackle eight mysterious
missions aboard our 'ship'! The setting
is wildly creative, the activities are fun and the experience
is inspirationall!i

What does the day include?
Dr. Karyn will lead you and your teen through 8 experiential
fun games geared to strengthen your relationship. There are
no lectures. Both teens and parents will also get a workbook
to record all their 'Ahah' moments throughout the day.
Who should come to this event?
All parents and youth who want to strengthen their parent
/ teen relationship. This event is not geared for families
in crisis but, rather, families who simply want to make their
relationships better!
What age is most appropriate?
Youth from grades 6-12 (ages 11-18) have participated and
thoroughly enjoyed the event. The tools learned can be applied
to all age-groups.
I'm a relative (godparent, grandparent,
aunt, uncle) wanting to better the relationship with my (niece,
granddaughter etc.) Would this still be helpful for us or
is it only for parents and teens?
Yes, this event would be helpful for any adult or parent wanting
to strengthen their relationship with a teen.
Should I bring all my teens or just
one? Should my partner come as well?
Ideally, LIFEBOAT works best with a one-on-one ratio (1 teen
& 1 parent or 2 teens & 2 parents). A two-on-one ratio
(2 teens & 1 parent or 2 parents & 1 teen) also works
well. LIFEBOAT activities are interactive and therefore your
family ratios need to be kept smaller.
My teens are reluctant to come. How
can I get them on board?
Explain to your teen that 86% of teens and 92% of parents
rated LIFEBOAT as ‘Outstanding’ last year. Also print off
the LIFEBOAT testimonials and information so they can read
the teen testimonials. Let your teens know this is not a lecture
but an interactive event filled with mysterious missions geared
to better your relationship!
We also recommend your teen to invite a friend and their parent
to join you. All of a sudden, LIFEBOAT will turn into a wonderfully
fun and meaningful social experience.
Can I purchase my tickets at the
door?
No - all registration must be done in advance. Also, because
this event only holds 120 people, we are expecting to be sold
out quickly!
How much are the tickets?
Early Bird Rate
$ 65.00 per person + GST / HST
OR $ 200.00 per family (up to 4 family members) + GST / HST
Regular Rate
$ 85.00 per person + GST / HST
OR $ 240.00 per family (up to 4 family members) + GST / HST
REFERRAL BONUS: If you refer someone else
to LIFEBOAT 2010, you will receive a $20/ discount (per referred
registration form, not per person) towards your total fee
if you paid the regular rate. To receive this special gift,
your name needs to be on their registration form at the time
of booking. Limit 2 discounts per family, not available if
Early Bird Rate was already awarded.
What happens for lunch? Is lunch
included?
We've learned from prior events that many teens have their
favourite foods/ restaurants. So Dr. Karyn breaks for 75 minutes
mid-day allowing families to go to their choice of one of
the many restaurants just around the corner.
I'd love to come, but I'm facing
financial difficulties. Does Dr. Karyn offer sponsored rates?
Yes - each year Dr. Karyn gives out some sponsored / discounted
tickets for families that are struggling financially. Email

and explain your situation to her in as much detail as you
can.

Generally Dr. Karyn only offers LIFEBOAT once a year. So sign
